Each week I’m going to write a weekly post summarising the notable projects and singles that released during the week. I’m planning on doing this on the same day each week, probably on the Friday before the wave of Friday albums drop, so each post will cover the previous Friday-Thursday.
I’m doing this mainly so I can come back to them in the future and see when certain things dropped, but also hope to help others catch some fresh music that you may have missed. I’ll include some links to any reviews I’ve done on the projects, streaming services to listen to them, and anything else that may be relevant. Enjoy!
NBA Youngboy – Drop ‘Em – Music Video
Overall I felt this was a fairly average week despite there being an impressive amount of both album and single releases. It was honestly one of the best weeks of the year in terms of full projects, but was spurred by the fact that there were a lot of disappointing singles.
Out of the albums I’ve listened to my Favourite was Lil Uzi’s ‘Eternal Atake’ by far, with both the Megan Thee Stallion and CJ Fly albums being below average. I’m still planning on listening to the album ‘Epidemic’ from Up-and-comer Money Man, DJ Kay Slay’s ‘Living Legend’ which is stacked with features, and may even check out the projects from Chief Keef, Jadakiss, and Jay Worthy. Overall though there were 9 albums that came out in the last 7 days that I’ve been eager to listen to, and that alone makes this an impressive week in terms of projects.
The singles were what let me down this week, with some below average efforts from Gunna (Skybox), Youngboy Never Broke Again (Drop’em), Wiz Khalifa (Bammer) & B.o.B (Chattering). Despite the lows though there were some songs I really enjoyed this week, with the most notable being ‘Oprah’s Bank Account’ which sees Lil Yachty enlist both Drake and DaBaby for guest features. I also was a fan of ‘Poppin Out’ by Dizzy Wright, loved the barrage of bars and humour on Cupcakke’s comeback track ‘Lawd Jesus’, and thoroughly enjoyed both artists flows and delivery on the AJ Tracey & Aitch collaboration ‘Rain’. On another positive note, I thought R.A. The Rugged Man’s ‘Wondering’ had some of the best storytelling and emotional lyrics of the last 12 months, I’m just on the fence about the song as a whole. Other than that almost everything on this list was fairly average.
What were your favourite songs from the last week?
Is there anything decent I seem to have missed?
Thanks For Reading!
